WHEN : Sunday April 18, 2010
TIME: 9am
WHERE: National Harbor(MD), on the bank of the Potomac River.
WHO: The field is limited to 5,000 runners.
WHY: Circling the globe in 24 hours, the Dow Live Earth Run for Water will inspire the world’s citizens to come together to protect our water resources.
WHAT: Running or walking 6km (the average distance to clean water in third world countries) makes the realities of water scarcity real to participants in the developed world, an awaking to this global issue.
THE AMENTIES- The Entry Fee will provide each runner with access to the following:
- On the course, runners will be serviced by one fluid stop complete with Powerade sports drink and water.
- Following the race, runners will have access to post race snacks, SmartWater bottled water, & watermelon and other fruit
- Each finisher will receive complementary beer
- Your Bib number will provide you with discounts at select National Harbor stores and restaurants on race weekend
- Free access to the Water Village
- The post race party will include live music.
TIMING- The event will be chip timed and run on a challenging but fair course. The event will use the disposable ChronoTrack D-TAG timing system that comes attached to your bib.
THE COURSE- The 6K course distance was selected to mimic the average distance women and children of many nations must travel to gain access to potable water. Unlike these third world water treks, the Run for Water DC course will be run entirely on paved roads and paths within the National Harbor property. Due to some narrow locations on the race route, we will utilize a wave start allowing participants to be on course with runner’s of similar ability.
PACKET PICK UP- Runners may pick up their timing chip and bib number prior to race day at various locations around the Metro area. These will be held on several dates and sites yet to be determined. We will also have pick up at National Harbor on Saturday prior to the race. Look for updates on these locations by April 1st.
We encourage as many runners as possible to pick up their chips and bibs at these pre-race locations.
In addition we will have packet pick up on race day from 6:30am to 8am. DO NOT BE LATE as we will not be able to extend this timeline. THERE IS NO RACE DAY REGISTRATION!
RUNNER PREMIUM: Each registered runner will receive a high quality race premium that is yet to be determined. The premium will be distributed after finishing the race only. This policy will allow us to speed the distribution process and conduct race day packet pick up.
AWARDS- The event will offer overall and age group awards
PARKING/TRAVEL: There is ample parking in the National Harbor facility however, we strongly encourage all runners to carpool and/or find alternate means of reaching the venue. Some parking areas are closer and more convenient to the start line than others and some parking garages within the National Harbor facility do charge to park. We have created a PickUpPal site to help you coordinate your Ride Share efforts.
There are also Water Taxi services from both Alexandria and DC that will be available to and from National Harbor.
No Refunds or Transfers.
