Most of you know the story by now. On June 8, 2008, Mark Ragonese, Rags to most of us, was paralyzed from the chest down in a freak accident while setting up for an event.

rags headshotRags spent the next 11 days at the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center and the following 102 days at the Shepherd Center in Atlanta, Ga. starting his recovery process.

The Shepherd Center is a world renowned hospital that is specifically designed for the treatment of spinal cord patients. While there, Rags and his family learned a lot about what their new life would be like. They were surrounded by others with similar hurdles in front of them, as well as doctors & caregivers who had seen thousands of patients with similar injuries. Rags worked hard at rehab -- and anyone who knows him would expect nothing less.

When his work was done in Atlanta, the Ragonese family weighed their next decision very heavily. Ultimately, Rags wanted to return to Maryland where he could resume the life he had built with Erika, Jack and Liv. He wanted to come back to his friends and neighbors that he has come to know and love over his twelve years here.

It is with great pleasure that we all welcome Rags and his family back home. Now it is time to celebrate their arrival and help them to raise some much needed funds to make their future here as comfortable as possible!

We invite you to visit the Website/blog below where you can learn more about what happened, get updates on his condition and even write a note to Rags and his family.
