Before Corrigan Sports Enterprises (CSE), President Lee Corrigan worked with partner John Matthews as EMCEE Sports and ran the Toyota Invitational from 1996-1997. The tournament was held at Cattail Creek in Western Howard County, MD. The event was a trial balloon looking toward the possibility of gaining a regular spot on future Senior Tour calendars.
The tournament was a relatively new experience for the senior players since they were playing two days for a purse scaled from $45,000 – $50,000. The Toyota Invitational was played as a two-day pro-am. The Johns Hopkins Children’s Center was the primary beneficiary of proceeds from this tournament.
Corrigan and Matthews had the dream of bringing a PGA Tour event to the Baltimore area. They brought this event from conception to fruition.
